Glendo State Park in Wyoming is a beautiful, under-utilized recreational area just under 3 hours outside of Denver. Glendo State Park is a 22,000 acre park in Platte County Wyoming, on and around Glendo Reservoir. There are 10,000 acres of land and 12,000 acres of water, 45 miles of multi-use, non-motorized trails, which make for excellent trail adventures. With sweeping views of the reservoir itself, as well as working dam, and hydro electric plant, this unique area is not one to be missed.
This is an excellent event for those looking to test or fine tune their night running skills. First time running in the dark? First time using a headlamp to navigate? Trying to practice staying up all night for your next ultra? This race aims to prepare you for your longer races later in the season. The Sunrise Scramble is a fun, safe way to hit the trails in the twilight.
Our home base will be the Two Moon Campground and runners will head out on loops of varying distances (from 1-13 miles). The idea will be to time your loops so that you finish all that you are aiming for before the sun officially pokes it’s head out. We have three different timed event lengths that you can sign up for 3 hours, 5 Hours, and ~10 hours. The full length event will be from sunset to sunrise which is about 10 hours that evening.

Race Rules
Leave no trace. Better yet, leave the trails better than you found them (pick up any trail trash that you see along the way-free Trail Trash Trucker hat to the runner who picks up the most trash mid-race!) No littering. Anyone intentionally littering will be disqualified.
Stay on course. If you get off course, please do your best to return to where you went off course and continue along your designated loop.
Be Kind. Anyone who is rude to other runners/staff/park staff/crew will be disqualified.
Check in. When returning from a loop and before starting the next, the runner must check in with the timing volunteer. We want to make sure that you get credit for all your miles and that we know what loop you are heading out on. No fancy runner tracking at this event. Pen & paper: old school.
No dogs on the course.
Dogs are allowed within the campground and anywhere else that follows the rules of the state park itself, but they will not be allowed near the group fire pit, or the aid station. Not everyone is a dog person and we certainly don’t need any dog fights.
No Pacers.
Crew cannot administer aid to their runner outside of the main aid station. Crew can sit at road crossings and cheer people on.
If you are leaving on Loop 5 you must have AT LEAST 1.5 liters of fluid and 300 emergency calories in your pack. These are in addition to what you plan to consume during the loop. You must show the timing volunteer that you have both when you check in prior to leaving for Loop 5/Pink Loop
When you are done with your last loop (we truly don’t care if you do 1 loop or 45) you must tell the timing volunteer that you are DONE. Once you have reported that you have completed your race, you may not go back out on the course.
In case of muddy or wet trail conditions (it is April so this will be highly probable) please run directly through the muddy section. It’s counterintuitive but running around the mud widens the trail unnecessarily and negatively impacts the areas adjacent to the trail.
Mandatory Gear (See the list below): These will be checked when you pick up your bib and before you go out on Loop 5/Pink Loop.
No Poles on the first loop - we are all running the same one and we want to make sure no one gets whacked in the shin. We will have sawhorses set up at start/finish to stage your poles so that you can get them after the first loop.
We don’t disallow headphones, but we do recommend that you keep at least one of them out or use the bone conduction type. You are running at night. There is wildlife. It is good practice to be on alert.
HAVE FUN!
Where to Stay
Camping
We recommend camping in Glendo State Park with us in order to enjoy all the festivities and hang with the community. The camping is first come first serve this time of year. We will be in the Two Moon Campground, you can check out what sites look like here: https://reserve.wyoming.gov/web/
The campground will have power turned on to electrical sites, but it is too early for water or the dump stations, so please plan accordingly.
*If you are going to camp with us, and you have already purchased your registration with us at the park pass level, then make sure that you don’t select another day pass in the checkout process for camping.

What to Do
The family is more than welcome, there is a large play ground right near our home base at Two Moon Campground. We hear that Glendo Reseviour has the best Walleye fishing! There are lots of other trails that we are not using that are multi use for biking, hiking, and running. There is a working Hyroplant and a few other historic sites to visit on your trip.
